Air Cargo Golf Club Bangkok
Dear Members and Participants,
May we kindly take this opportunity to introduce the history and establishment of the Regional Air Cargo Golf Club. The Regional AGC was incorporated almost two decades ago, with its tournament being organized annually on a rotating basis to different member countries. As early as 1985, when FAPAA was formed, the delegates would routinely participate in a round of golf prior to the commencement of the meeting. There was an increasing popularity over the years, becoming a staple tradition by all delegates throughout the regions. Players from a wide range of proficiencies participated and relished in this tradition; from amateurs who have never held a golf club to well-seasoned golf experts. One such golfing event occurred between the Thai and Singaporean teams, coordinated by Khun Keree and Mr Alec with Swissair hosting the dinner. Soon after the success of this event, Khun Keree and Mr Alec formed the Air Cargo Golf Club (AGC in short) in their respective countries to further expand this tradition. Over time, the various tournaments and promotions held by AGC led to an expansion in participating countries including Taiwan and Hongkong. These events were organized through the knowledge of FAPAA. This resulted in further significant highlights in the history of the AGC:
- In 1991, a Quadrangular Tournament was arranged in Bangkok, and the tournament was played over two days at Rose Garden and Pinehurst, with Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong competing for the main trophy, A Regional AGC Committee was then founded, and the members agreed that they should hold the two days’ tournament annually, and the different countries would then host the games.
- In 1992, it was held in Taipei and in 1993 at Singapore’s SICC AND TMCC. Indonesia joined the 1994 tournament at Bangkok’s Payya Resort and Phoenix C.C. , the regional AGC started its first ‘Shot Gun’ because of the number of golfers involved .
- AGC-Taiwan decided to host the 1995 tournament in Phuket with the help of AGC-Thailand. This was where Malaysia joined the regional event.
- In 1996 it was hosted by Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, and Indonesia was the host in 1997 in Jakarta.By rotation, it was then Thailand’s turn again to host the 1998 tournament in Pattaya, followed by Singapore in 1999.The millennium year was Taiwan’s honor to host the event in Taipei.
- The 2001, the tournament came back to Thailand for the fourth time, and since then Khun Keree is still active at AGC-Thailand’s committee, while Alec Koh has continued to be involved with the Singapore committee since its foundation.
- In 2008, Philippines team joined AGC tournament was hosted by Indonesia, Now a day Philippines very strong golfer and always participant every match since 2008.
- In 2018, 8 representatives of Vietnam joined AGC tournament was hosted by Singapore.
The AGC organization has been highly instrumental in fostering the friendships in this region and has further supported the reduction of stress from the experiences in the air cargo business. It is fascinating to observe how far AGC has achieved from a friendly event by two young executives Khun Keree Chaichanavong and Mr Alec Koh in 1970s to an international organization with participants from various countries. Last but not least, we are delighted to welcome more of AGC’s friendly countries to join our AGC, like the Vietnamese team, etc., to further expand and improve the AGC organization forwards.
The respect and sincere appreciation from all our members goes to the founder of the Regional Air Cargo Golf Tournament “Khun Keree Chaichanavong” and “Mr. Alec Koh.
Regarding the year 2019, the AGC regional tournament will once again be hosted by Thailand under the Chairman Khun Nitithorn Sukmanus and his committee. This tournament will be held in the Pattaya province at Siam Country club a well renowned golf country club which has hosted significant events such as the “HONDA LPGA THAILAND” tournament every year. This year AGC regional tournament will occur on the 28th April 2019 until 1st May 2019 with the golf courses as follow:
– 29th April 2019 at “WATERSIDE” golf course
– 30th April 2019 at “PLANTATION” golf course
